Christmas Moratorium
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. (Luke 2:14)
A moratorium is a legally authorized period of delay in doing something. It is a waiting period imposed by an authority to suspend an activity.
Sometimes, there is a cease-fire during a war because of a moratorium. There is a movie based on true events from 1914, when soldiers from three enemy trenches laid down their guns to share a Christmas meal together. There is another movie where enemy soldiers were invited to have Christmas dinner with a woman’s family, provided they leave their rifles at the door. Their Christmas moratorium included sharing a peaceful meal together.
Christmas time should be a festive, peaceful time, not a time to fight and bicker. Peace on earth should start with peace in your own surroundings. If you feel that you will say something to start an argument, pray that God will put a watch over your mouth (Psalm 141:3).
If you feel that you will be ostracized and criticized, pray that God will be a fence around you so you will not feel the fiery darts that are thrown your way. Put on the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:10).
Silently repeat spiritual warfare scriptures during your time around others because while you might have called your own Christmas moratorium, others might not have done so.
Affirm: Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
